Abstract
Assisted suicide is a crucial bioethical and legal challenge that pits personal autonomy against the limits of state intervention at the end of life. This study examines how laws and bioethics regulate this practice in different jurisdictions, seeking to balance patient autonomy with the protection of life. To analyze the legal, constitutional, and bioethical criteria applicable to the regulation of assisted suicide in comparative law, identifying similarities, differences, and control mechanisms implemented in various countries. Using a qualitative and hermeneutic approach, laws, case law, and international doctrine were examined. The results show that countries regulating this practice apply strict safeguards, eligibility filters, and institutional oversight to ensure legal certainty. Ecuador needs a legal framework that guarantees patients' rights in extreme situations and provides legal protection for healthcare professionals.
