Abstract
The aim of this paper is to reflect on the current crisis of democracies and the authoritarian turn from an analysis of the subjectivations. At first, we describe the liberal ideal of transparency in the democratic generation of consensus and its neglect of the dimension of political subjectivities. In a second moment, we will resort to the studies on the authoritarian personality carried out by the first generation of the Frankfurt School. Thus, we try to show that social authoritarianism are “symptoms” that cannot be reduced to their economic location nor explained only by an analysis of the relations of political forces but must also be inquired in the intersection between ideology and subjectivity. Finally, we offer some reflections on the contemporary processes of subjectivation and its role in the acceptance of the social conditions and of social forms of authoritarianism.
